Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has come out to divulge why he ditched the Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party for William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Wamatangi, speaking on Thursday during Citizen TV’s Day Break show, said that the decision was informed by a survey he did on the voters in his home ground.

“I conducted a very credible survey of what my people want in the next government, and I decided that if it is their wish, then so be it,” he stated.

The senator who is seeking the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the August General Election further dispelled speculation that there was chaos at Jubilee which made him ditch the party.

“I have been the last man standing at Jubilee in the Mt. Kenya region. I don’t have a problem with Jubilee, the people of Kiambu told me to move to UDA.”

Wamatangi added that he is ready for any ‘disciplinary action’ against him by President Kenyatta, saying: “I welcome disciplinary action if it comes. I am not one of the agenda. I do not behold any positions.”

In an unexpected turn of events last Sunday, Wamatangi, a longtime vocal supporter of the Azimio La Umoja movement, was welcomed by DP Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza leaders during a rally at Thika stadium.

“Nataka niwaambie hivi tumeshikana leo, hii itakuwa ni mashindano ya sera nzuri za kujenga kenya. Itakuwa ni mashindano ya akili nzuri na mipango kabambe ya kubadilisha nchi ya Kenya,” he said then.

Wamatangi will be in the race for Kiambu’s top seat alongside incumbent Governor James Nyoro, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu, Thika MP Jungle as well as former governor Ferdinand Waititu.
