Wamuchomba Claims Gvt Is Targeting Mt Kenya Agency Heads

Member of Parliament for Githunguri, Ms. Gathoni Wamuchomba, has claimed that there is a secret alliance brewing between President William Ruto and the leader of the One Kenya Alliance, Mr. Raila Odinga.

Ms. Wamuchomba stated that there is a covert plot unfolding within the government of Kenya First to sideline the Mount Kenya region to make room for expected “newcomers” in the government soon.

In an interview with a television station on Sunday, October 8, 2023, Ms. Wamuchomba said that the people of the Mount Kenya region should not be surprised if “newcomers are welcomed into the government in the coming days, even though they did not support President William Ruto in the August 9, 2022 election.”

“There are clandestine schemes underway to marginalize the Mount Kenya region from the Kenyan First government. Aside from the cold war initiated against our leaders, the process that has been used to dismiss top executives of government agencies is targeting individuals from the Mount Kenya region. This is the reality. These are the things that are happening, but many are afraid to speak up,” Ms. Wamuchomba said.

She added, “We will be shocked to realize there is an alliance while we are left out of the government we claim to have a significant stake in.”

The MP also criticized the government’s failure to settle coffee farmers’ debts, similar to what it has done for sugar cane farmers in the Western region.

Ms. Wamuchomba called this “clear discrimination,” especially considering that the debt owed by coffee farmers is relatively small compared to that of sugar cane farmers.

“The government has written off nearly Ksh 117 billion owed by sugar factories in the Western and Nyanza regions. Why have our pleas for the government to clear coffee farmers’ debts not been heard or considered? The irony is that the debt owed by coffee farmers is only Ksh 6 billion! Why are we not pushing for our interests in the government we elected? These are signs that we are not represented!” Ms. Wamuchomba stated.

In addition, she expressed her concerns about the silence of President Ruto’s government regarding the implementation of the One Person, One Vote, One Shilling system, which was intended to benefit the region due to its large population.

She mentioned that after several inquiries about the fate of the initiative, lawmakers from the region were told to “keep quiet.”
