Politician and businessman Jimi Wanjigi claims that the aspiration of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga to become the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) is a move to step away from the political stage in Kenya.
Wanjigi also asserted that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka should retire from politics. In a statement that may irk Musyoka and anger Deputy President William Ruto, Wanjigi insists that Musyoka should exit politics and mentor young politicians, citing himself as one of the older politicians.
“Kalonzo should stop wasting our time. He is among the old politicians. Kalonzo has nothing new to offer Kenyans. We have one problem in this country, which is William Ruto, and even Kalonzo cannot remove Ruto. Even if he could, he cannot solve the problems caused by Ruto, such as the economic downturn,” said Wanjigi in an exclusive interview with Taifa Leo Digital.
He emphasized that Musyoka should follow Raila’s lead and retire with dignity. If he believes he is the spokesperson for the Kamba community, he should prepare a new generation that fits into this new era of politics. Wanjigi expressed doubt about Musyoka, who has been in Kenyan politics for nearly 40 years, bringing anything new to the table.
“He should stop wasting our time and retire,” he said.
Wanjigi praised Raila’s bold move to vie for the AUC chairmanship, stating that it should be supported by the government unconditionally. He suggested that the former prime minister will leave big shoes for opposition leaders to fill if he succeeds in his AUC aspiration.”
