Westland MP Timothy Wanyonyi and Allies ‘To Unveil Nairobi Candidate Soon’

Westland Member of Parliament Timothy Wanyonyi, women representative Esther Passaris, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna and former Dagoretti South MP Denis Waweru has announced it will soon unveil its candidate and deputy for the city’s gubernatorial seat for this year’s election.

 Speaking on Sunday during a church service at Christian New hope in Githurai 44 two weeks ago, they said that they have already settled on the lineup in the August General Election.

 Dubbed Team Azimio la Umoja Nairobi, they declared support for each other and vowed to campaign for former prime minister Raila Odinga presidential.

Westland MP and gubernatorial aspirant Timothy Wanyonyi said that they will mainly focus on security, youth employment, housing and provision of clean water.

He said that the team will remain united despite who is named the candidate, saying service for Nairobians supersedes individual ambitions.

 “We believe each other, we respect each other and we are here to stay, we have one goal and that is to take Nairobi County to the next level, let me also make it clear team Azimio is strong and united,” he said.

According to Waweru, the team is waiting ‘for the appropriate time’ to name the candidates as the election mood heats up in the capital city.

“We are ready even if elections were held tomorrow; we are ready, you just need to watch this space,” he said.

He revealed that, for the position of the governor, it will either be him (Waweru) or his friend Tim Wanyonyi.

 “It’s either me (Denis Waweru) or my friend Timothy Wanyonyi who will be next governor but we will sit down and discuss who will fly the flag of Azimio, “Waweru said.

Waweru said the team has just begun the journey of taking over the capital city, contending that Nairobi County requires leaders who know about its needs.

“Only leaders from Nairobi can relate with the problems experienced by residents. I urge you to make the right decision as you cast your ballot. Some candidates don’t hold your challenges at heart, we are better placed to understand your challenges and shall soon be on your doorsteps to listen to you,” Waweru told congregants.

Nairobi women representative, Esther Passaris said she will defend her seat on the Azimio ticket.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna said that the group has the blessing of both Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

 Sifuna said that he is the best candidate to succeed the incumbent senator Johnson Sakaja.

 Sakaja is eyeing gubernatorial seat.
