What’s on the Floor of the National Assembly This Week ?

The National Assembly has resumed back to its normal house procedure with a packed agenda that includes the consideration of a Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2024 and several critical reports.

Lawmakers will debate the Supplementary Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2024, sponsored by the Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson, Hon. Ndindi Nyoro.

The Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2024 makes provision for giving statutory sanction for public expenditure for the year ending on the 30th June, 2024, on the basis of the Supplementary II Estimates of Expenditure 2023/24 (Recurrent) and the Supplementary II Estimates of Expenditure 2023/24 (Development) and for the appropriation of those amounts.

The Committee of the Whole House will sit to consider the Pensions (Amendment) Bill, 2022 sponsored by Hon. Didmus Barasa which seeks to improve pension provisions and make changes to the pension system and the Cotton Industry Development Bill, 2023 co- sponsored by Hon. Mary Emaase which seeks to promote the cotton industry.

The House will also debate reports from the Auditor-General on the National Government Constituencies Development Fund for nine Bungoma County constituencies. Additionally, legislators will discuss a public petition alleging misuse of public funds contrary to the Constitution.

Other items on the agenda include a Report on the audited accounts of specific state corporations and a proposal to improve the reporting of parliamentary business on online platforms.

Members of Parliament including Hon. Mark Mwenje, Hon. Dorice Donya, and Hon. Machua Waithaka will request for statements regarding the shooting of a student, theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure, and power transformer damage.

Several motions including a motion on providing mental health services in all healthcare facilities, a motion advocating for policies and funding to support sugarcane farmers, a motion calling for national sensitization and support for combating these diseases and a motion proposing the establishment of a science museum will also considered.
