Why DP Ruto Needs Kalonzo More than Kalonzo Needs Him

The two perceived, ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto, horses contesting for presidency have promised a bare knuckled bruising race ahead of 9th August election.

The cutthroat competition for the country’s top seat has gained unprintable momentum with the head of state president Uhuru Kenyatta planning to unleash state machineries, substantial resources and connections aiming to scatter and jeopardize DP Ruto’s ambition of clinching to presidency in the next election.

Uhuru ganging up the opposition chief Raila Odinga predicts a huge blow to the Kenya Kwanza outfit that houses United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya.

Unlike his predecessors, Moi and Kibaki, the incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta, is aggressive in influencing his succession race as he has already declare Raila Odinga as his preferred candidate. Uhuru’s entry into the high-voltage politics might jitter the security agencies on the tenterhooks.

Raila is set to hold the mother of all rallies at Jacaranda ground on Saturday for the National Delegates Convention of Azimio la Umoja where president Uhuru Kenyatta is also expected to attend.

On the other hand, Deputy President William Ruto, who is accused of betraying his principal chief, is seeking to build his international networks with external experts and agencies for his bid to downplay Raila Odinga in the next election.

However, owing to the fact that Raila has been hugely endorsed by the three Ukambani governors (Kitui Governor – Charity Ngilu, Makueni governor – Kivutha Kibwana and Machakos governor – Alfred Mutua), it is a political smart tactic for DP Ruto to counter Raila’s base support in Ukambani by absorbing Kalonzo into Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Kalonzo’s entry into Kenya Kwanza might assure DP Ruto a positive political node of securing votes in the region for his presidential bid.

Of course Kalonzo is the Ukambani region kingpin and Deputy President should be keen in mastering the vote-rich regions that would add political bonga points to his presidential bid.
