Vocal political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi was brought in Nairobi’s Eastlands but with all that exposure he took years before approaching a girl.

Unlike today’s generation that embarks on courting before completing Primary School, Mutahi started dating when he was 28 years old.

Growing up at Maringo Estate in 1970s he was a playful boy. He alongside other boys chased away cats and rabbits with their dogs in nearby bushy areas where Buruburu estate sits. He had no time for girls.

He went to Dr Kraft Primary School and later Aquinas High School and this time he was deep into the Church he decided not to date any girl, even in their Church.

He kept off girls because of Church beliefs.

He said in a past interview that at young age he was the Church pianist and guitarist.

“I was a very committed Church guy from when I was 13 years old. The commitment we had as boys was that you cannot serve two masters. You cannot have a girlfriend and serve God at the same time. That was the fundamental nature of what we believed in our Church” Mutahi disclosed.

The son of a reverend kept off girls until when he was in the university he felt the need to have one.

Interestingly the lady he came across at a wedding ended up being his wife now for 28 years.

Where he met his first girlfriend.

He was playing piano at a wedding at Citam Church along Valley Road, Nairobi and close to him was a lady too playing piano for a friend who was performing there.

The lady is Dr Judith Lang’at. She asked Mutahi to help her with his piano and immediately they struck a conversation.

They kept communicating through the telephone booth and one thing led to another and eventually they became a couple.

His wife Dr Judith Lang’at Mutahi.

“I grabbed the chance and I gave her my number which was a landline number of a booth near our home” Mutahi revealed.

Now they have three girls who have been schooled abroad. Two are lawyers while the other an economist.
