Maina Kageni has weighed in on the ongoing degree saga surrounding most of the politicians eying various seats in the August 9, General Election.
This comes at a time when some of the hopefuls who were eying various elective seats in this year’s elections have been locked out due to a lack of a degree.
Safina presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi is among those who were locked out due to a lack of a degree.
The Constitution of Kenya 2010 requires that all those seeking to vie for the presidency and the gubernatorial seats must be degree holders from a recognized University in Kenya.
In December 2021, Kageni had announced that he will mark the end of his era on the radio in 2022 with a section of Kenyans insinuating that he would be joining the murky field of politics.
However, the renowned presenter on Tuesday, June 14, announced that he does not intend to vie for the gubernatorial seat as he does not have the required educational qualifications.
Speaking during the Morning Conversation on Classic 105, Maina said left his listeners confused after revealing that he dropped out of school and opted to be a truck driver.
“I have no degree so I cannot look for that job. (Governor). You cannot go and bring a degree form just anywhere and present it. You cannot buy papers you will be found out at some point,” he said.
Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja and his Kakamega counterpart Cleophas Malala are also among the politicians at the center of the degree requirement saga.
Both Malala and Sakaja are eying the seats on a United Democratic Alliance, a party heavily linked with 2022 presidential front runner William Ruto.
