A 35-year-old woman in Nairobi has faced charges of assault for allegedly attacking her husband and making death threats during a domestic dispute.
Ms. Grace Wanjiku, along with her former partner, who is also the father of her child, is accused of assaulting Mr. Umberto Daniel at his residence in South B Estate, Nairobi, on September 10th.
Wanjiku is alleged to have threatened to kill Umberto, brandishing a kitchen knife and saying, “I will kill someone… don’t dare me,” when he inquired about her late-night return home.
Her ex-partner, the co-accused, who was not present in court, is set to be charged with issuing death threats for allegedly threatening to shoot Umberto. He has been summoned by the court.
Additionally, Wanjiku faces charges of causing a disturbance following the commotion at the complainant’s residence. According to the police, Wanjiku became violent, damaging household items and engaging in a physical altercation with Umberto.
She reportedly grabbed a knife and scratched the walls while threatening to harm him as she packed her belongings.

Wanjiku allegedly called her ex-partner, who arrived promptly and joined in assaulting Umberto before making the alleged death threats.
The two suspects then left the scene together, while Umberto reported the incident to the South B Police Station around 3 a.m.
Ms. Wanjiku denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwany of the Makadara Law Courts. Corporal Horace Arwa, the investigating officer, mentioned that the co-accused was uncooperative during the investigations and had asked for the complainant’s car registration details, suggesting possible intentions to follow him.
However, Magistrate Okwany declined to register Cpl Arwa’s allegations against the co-accused because he had not been presented in court.
She remanded Wanjiku in custody until October 23rd and ordered a social investigation report by the Probation and Aftercare Services Department, which will influence her decision regarding bail and bail conditions.
Ms. Wanjiku will be held in custody at Nairobi Women’s Prison. The magistrate has summoned Wanjiku’s ex-partner to appear in court on October 23rd during the mention of the case when he is expected to be formally charged.
