The women leaders’ coalition in the Mount Kenya region has pledged to shield Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against what they claim are political attacks and warfare.
The coalition stated that they would demonstrate to all political adversaries of Mr. Gachagua that “despite seeing us clad in armor, we are of a different caliber and are equal to men.”
Speaking on Tuesday in Kirinyaga County, Maragua MP Mary Wamaua said that even those who wage political battles against Mr. Gachagua are political novices without substance or edge.
“We, the women leaders of Mount Kenya, will confront them head-on,” said Ms. Wamaua.

She asserted that come what may, Mount Kenya will stand by or rise with Mr. Gachagua.
“Those with different opinions should know that they will face the wrath of the nurturing parents,” she added.
She said they are the ones who gave birth to Mr. Gachagua’s position through their votes.
“It’s like giving birth to a child. Only the biological mother knows the pain of childbirth. A mother is the one who feels the pain of nine months until giving birth. Like the process of childbirth, it should be understood that we are in the phase of nurturing Mr. Gachagua’s position, and we will do it willingly,” she said.
Members of the coalition who have publicly acknowledged their membership include Naivasha MP Jane Kihara, Special Senator Veronica Maina, Kirinyaga Women’s Representative Njeri Maina, Nyeri Women’s Representative Rahab Mukami, and Special MP Sabina Chege.
Ms. Maina claimed that if the residents of Mount Kenya had chosen the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition, “right now we would be in the ditch as a country.”
“Mr. Gachagua is a patriot and a social hero. Those shaking him should know they are trying to shake the Mountain. We are here, unmoved,” said Ms. Maina.
Mr. Gachagua and President William Ruto were elected through the Kenya Kwanza coalition. Both are members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
