KEWOPA Chairperson Leah Sankaire
Female lawmakers under the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) have launched a nationwide campaign, Komesha Dhuluma, to combat femicide and gender-based violence (GBV).
The initiative, unveiled at Parliament Buildings, will see all 102 female MPs and senators lead grassroots efforts to raise awareness and address GBV in their constituencies.
KEWOPA Chairperson Hon. Leah Sankaire (Kajiado) announced that President William Ruto has allocated Ksh100 million to support the campaign. “Every KEWOPA member will spearhead this campaign at the constituency level, tailoring forums to meet the specific needs of their communities,” she said.
The campaign aims to engage 100,000 Kenyans directly through community forums and reach over 10 million people through media campaigns. Key messages will focus on preventing femicide and offering support to survivors of gender-based violence.
“We are collaborating with stakeholders, including women’s rights organizations, law enforcement, and the judiciary, to ensure survivors get justice and the help they need,” added Hon. Sankaire.
Hon. Mishi Mboko (Likoni) called on all Kenyans to join the fight against GBV, emphasizing its widespread impact. “This is not just a women’s issue—it’s a national priority. Men and women alike are affected. Together, we can create a safer and fairer society,” she said.
The Komesha Dhuluma campaign signals a bold step in addressing GBV across Kenya, with a focus on community engagement, survivor justice, and societal change. Legislators and stakeholders are united in their commitment to ending this menace
